Note - we're really excited to try out Orr St. Studios as a new venue. This will be a house-concert-style acoustic show (no amplification). It's a very intimate space with nice acoustics and a treat for the eyes as well as the ears! There is wonderful art everywhere, as the building houses the studios for 25 local working artists. Fantastic! It's the perfect place fora guitar-artist to perform.

Gerry O'Beirne returns to Columbia!
Gerry O'Beirne is an old friend to CMCAA -- our very first "big" concert was Gerry and Andy M Stewart in fall 2001. Since then he's been here twice solo and returned with Andy last March. For people who's first introduction is hearing him with Andy, their reaction is invariably "Wow. I came to hear Andy, but now I'm a new fan of Gerry, too."
Gerry is an exceptional guitarist who performs on 6- and 12-string guitars and for a bit of levity he brings along a eukele, with which he is no less adept. He's a lovely singer who's songwriting is poetic and evocotive and echoes of the traditional themes and the landscapes of Ireland. Most of his reertoire is original, with occasional traditional pieces intermixed.
Gerry's first solo album, Half Moon Bay, featured his own songs and instrumental compositions. Half Moon Bay was citied as one of the 12 best releases of the year by Performing Songwriter magazine and was chosen as one of Folkworld's Top Ten Albums of the year. He has now released his second album The Bog Bodies And Other Stories: Music For Guitar, which was named CD of the Month on the radio show Echoes.
"He should be compulsory listening for any aspiring ambitious guitarist. It's not just his technical dexterity and brilliance that catches the imagination, it's the inventive use of arrangements, lyrics and melody." - The Word
"Intelligent, articulate, insightful musicianship from a real craftsman. Not a wasted word nor an untrue note." - Pay The Reckoning
Refreshments at the break
We'll provide coffee, tea and lemonade. You are invited to bring goodies to share. If the weather is nice, we can use the patio as well as enjoying the gallery. |
