This will be an acoustic house-party show with maximum seating of 40. If you have a couple folding chairs, please bring them; we will need some extras. Beverages will be provided; you are welcome to bring some goodies to share.
About the Fuchsia Band:
Singer Mairtin de Cogain has a style that's highly
reminiscent of the late great Luke Kelly of the Dubliners. His wonderfully
diverse bag of songs range from funny songs of great Irish wit to stirring
ballads. Mairtin is also a brilliant storyteller whose dramatic embellishments
give him away as part actor as well as a superlative singer. Along with box
player Eoin Verling, flutist Mick Heffernan, and guitar/banjo player Brian
McGillicuddy they play a very down to earth style of Irish music that is
driving, exciting, dance-worthy and fun. It's pure tradition from the far
reaches of West Cork, unadulterated by cross-genre influences that lure many
young musicians. This is The Pure Drop.
The Fuchsia Band performed at the Kansas City Irish Fest in 2005 and will be back there again this year. They are also making their debut at the "Superbowl of Irish Music", the Milwaukee Irish Fest, in August..
Mairtin is currently appearing in the newly released film "The Wind That Shakes the Barley," which just won the Palm d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
