Renowned Cape Breton fiddler and dancer to appear in Columbia

Eastern Canada was the landing point for many's the Scottish immigrant in the 18th and 19th centuries. The music and culture of the Canadian maritimes is rich with Scottish tradition, nowhere more so than on Cape Breton Island, home to a wellspring of fantastic music and musicians.

Natalie MacMaster won the East Coast Music Award for Roots/Traditional Solo Recording of the Year for her latest album, "Yours Truly." She has performed with artists such as Alison Krauss, the Chieftains, Paul Simon, and Luciano Pavarotti. Let this Celtic folk artist stun you with her feverish fiddling and mesmerizing step dancing.

The Pipes and Drums of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards rocketed to international fame in 1971 when their recording of the American hymn tune "Amazing Grace" became a pop hit sensation worldwide. Since then "Amazing Grace" has remained a piping favorite.

The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and the Band of the Coldstream Guards will play classic marches, anthems, songs, and dances from each of the countries that make up the British Isles: Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales. In the Highland Fling, the Royal Scots dancers continue a centuries-old tradition of masculine power and grace. As the soldiers march and counter-march in precise patterns, they are resplendent in their ceremonial uniforms-kilts of Royal Stewart tartan, scarlet tunics, and towering black hats.

They will be performing:
February 8: Jesse Hall, Columbia www.concertseries.org
February 9: Fox Theater, St. Louis

February 16: Music Hall, downtown Kansas City www.harriman-jewell.org

February 22 -- The Brock McGuire Band

Featuring four of Ireland's most celebrated musicians: Paul Brock (accordion), Manus McGuire (fiddle), Enda Scahill (banjo) and Denis Carey (piano)

"Brock-McGuire is the best Irish traditional instrumental group in the world....
No group has this concentration of truly gifted heavyweights of this caliber." - Bill Margeson, music writer for www.LiveIreland.com  and Irish Music Magazine

March 15 -- Scottish singer Andy M. Stewart and Irish singer/songwriter and guitarist Gerry O'Beirne

Andy M. Stewart is one of the finest traditional singers you will find anywhere, and an engaging, humorous entertainer. Gerry O'Beirne is a master artist on both the 6- and 12-string guitars and a wonderful singer/songwriter as well. Their concerts are stick-to-your-ribs soul-satisfying enjoyment.
