The first Burns Night Columbia went off pretty darn smoothly, considering it was a first attempt. Lots of kudos to Art and Amanda Smith for a well organized, executed and fun event! Thanks to all who attended, cooked, served and entertained! Well done. I hope we do it again next year.

The Natalie McMaster concert on Monday at Jesse Hall was a wonderful exhibition of Natalie's Olympic-class fiddling and Cape Breton style music, plus a potpourri of other styles and genres featuring her very talented band members. I am greatly enjoying the CD I picked up by Mack Morin, Cape Breton pianist. I'll have to loan it to Carol to play on her radio show. Thanks to the MU Concert Series for bringing Natalie and her band to town!

Céilí dance tonight!
Fun evening of dancing and music tonight!

Join us for an evening of Irish and Scottish social dancing. No experience and no partner needed. Please bring clean, soft-soled shoes to wear for dancing so we don't damage the great wood floor.

All ages are welcome. When we say "no experience necessary" we really mean it. Come on out!

Irish music, dance and song revue

Legend, folklore and enchantment are interwoven in a voyage of discovery without falling into the trap of sentimentality. That's not to deny that some passages make the hairs on the nape of the neck rise... The Magic of Ireland troupe's adaptation echoes the past as the dancers seem to fly across the stage to the beat of the bodhron and the soaring notes of the fiddle. Great music, dancing and singing by performers of zipping quality and enthusiasm make you want to clap in time - which a full house soon cottoned on to. Magic exports happily over the Irish Sea."
- Tony Heath, April 15 '05 Brecon, South Wales

Note from Kate: I can't actually find a list of WHO is performing in this show, but it looks to include some fairly good dancing and music. Here is a video of them performing a figure of a set dance to polkas: http://themagicofireland.ca/video/polka.wmv

March 15 -- Scottish singer Andy M. Stewart and Irish singer/songwriter and guitarist Gerry O'Beirne

Andy M. Stewart is one of the finest traditional singers you will find anywhere, and an engaging, humorous entertainer. Gerry O'Beirne is a master artist on both the 6- and 12-string guitars and a wonderful singer/songwriter as well. Their concerts are stick-to-your-ribs soul-satisfying enjoyment.

Look and listen!
