No ceili dance tonight
The CMCAA board has decided to suspend our monthly ceili dances in favor of approximately 3 concert/dance events in the coming year. This is due largely to declining attendance at our monthly dances, and a substantial increase in the rental fee for the space we've been using.
We may also hold some informal house dances on a more regular basis -- if you would like to be informed of when and where those will be, please send me a note. kakers@moceltic.org
There will be a ceili dance again this year at First Night columbia on New Years Eve. Traditional band Gan Bua (who were here in May for a concert) is booked to play for the dance. (see more below) |

First Night Columbia, Dec 31
Great lineup for Celtic music fans!
First Night Columbia, the New Years Eve festival in downtown Columbia (family friendly, alcohol-free) will have some terrific performances that fans of Celtic music should take note of!
Bua -- traditional band from Chicago who performed in Columbia in May will play a 2-hour set for a ceili dance. Brian Hart, our 2007 artist-in-residence is the singer for this band, so you can bet there will be some songs between the dances!
Acoustic Guitar Bonanza!
Tony McManus, Scottish acoustic guitarist is one of the giants in this genre. He's the finest Celtic fingerstyle guitarist... period. (Not just in my opinion!)
Beppe Gambetta, Italian flatpicking guitarist will also be making a return to Columbia for First Night!
He and Tony have played together over the last few years in an ensembled called "Men of Steel, Art of the Steel String Guitar" -- so you know you are in for a treat!
Tony and Beppe will play one performance set together, then will each have a solo set.
WORKSHOPS
Tony and Beppe are available to teach guitar workshops on Thursday, January 1, but we need to know if there is interest. Please pass this information along to acoustic guitarists and send an e-mail to me kakers@moceltic.org or to Jane Accurso j_accurso@hotmail.com if you would want to participate.
The First Night web site has not been updated yet for this year, but keep an eye on it:
