Máirtín, singer for The Fuchsia Band, returns again to Columbia withhis hatful of great songs and stories. Maybe we'll coax that famous broom dance out of him this time!
We're happy to welcome musician, poet and scholar Jimmy Crowley on his first stop in Columbia, a Cork institutution since the mid-70s!
"Jimmy is a living legend in Irish Folk music. He comes from Cork, in the south of Ireland, a city whose musical richness mirror's the city's diversity - a great trad music and song heritage as well as a legacy from music-hall vaudeville and high art musical traditions. Crowley draws on all of these traditions in fashioning his own unique performance style and repertoire and has collected extensively in the south of Ireland both as a ballad singer and as part of his academic degree.
"He is a consummate stage performer as well as a song writer, colour to his songs by weaving stories about Cork characters, maritime exploits and daily life into his act. His singing style is truly unique - nobody hearing Jimmy could possibly mistake him for anyone else." -- Mick Moloney

Musical Memorial for Alex Sutherland
April 19 in Wildwood, MO (St. Louis)
On Dec 3, 2007, the Celtic music community of St. Louis (and well beyond) lost a much-adored member in the person of Alex Sutherland. He was the entertainment director of the St. Louis Highland Games and head cronie of the Scottish folk band Alex Sutherland and his Cronies.
The Cronies performed in Columbia in 2003 and Alex was helped arranged local performances by musician Ed Miller and actor Christopher Tait (Robert Burns Live!) He provided much encouragement to CMCAA through the years.
A Musical Memorial for Alex Sutherland will be held on Saturday, April 19th 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the New Community Church in Wildwood (16801 Manchester Road, Wildwood, Missouri 63040).
"Join us for an afternoon full of music and humor. Approximately 40 different musicians will be honoring this man who gave so much through his music, humor, and gentle nature. The musical world has lost a great talent and friend. Admission is a donation at the door, and proceeds will go to the Sutherland family. For more information, call Judie Chaboude at 636-946-4174" |
