Concert Saturday, Dec 1, 7 p.m.
Paddy Keenan and Patsy O'Brien
Preface: I am delighted that
Mizzou is
playing for the Big 12 championship! The timing
could be better, though. I realize it's tough
competition for a concert, but we're
contractually obligated to the artists to go on
with the show. So
please consider coming to the concert!
You can record the first half and run home for
the second half of the game. We'll check the
score at intermission.
Special offer: If you bring a footall-ambivalent
friend who's never come to one of our concerts,
they get in for $8!
Raffle -- We'll have a
raffle for a CMCAA logo tote bag stuffed
with goodies: hand-spun and -knitted scarf,
Celtic music CDs and more! $1 raffle tickets
on sale before the show and at intermission;
drawing before the second half.
7 p.m. , Saturday Dec

About the artists:
In 2002 Paddy Keenan was awarded the
prestigious Traditional Musician of the Year
award by TG4, Ireland's Irish-language and
culture television channel (similar to PBS)
. His music vocation started young,
learning the pipes from his grandfather and
father, in a family of "travellers" (a
sub-culture of itinerant Irish people)
steeped in their Irish heritage. He was a
member of The Bothy Band in the 70's and
80's, a band at the forefront of the folk
and traditional music revival in Ireland.
His solo and collaborative recordings have
brought him further acclaim; he is generally
acknowledged as the most accomplished
uilleann piper performing today, and is
certainly one of the most brilliant
traditional musicians of his generation.
Performing with him will be Patsy O'Brien,
singer/songwriter and guitarist whose jazzy
flare brings a freshness to old favorites.
His jazz version of Star of the County Down,
with Paddy on low whistle, is fantastic.
This arrangement of the old Irish ballad
inspired Irish music critic Paul Dromey to
declare Patsy "Ireland's best - kept musical
secret," and has recently been featured on
NPR's "All Songs Considered."
