CONCERT: Sunday September 2 -- Different Drums of Ireland
7 p.m. at Unity Center of Columbia
1600 W. Broadway, Columbia MO 65203
$10 adults, $6 students/seniors, free for kids 12 & under
The bodhran is a frame drum used in Irish traditional music; in the North of Ireland it is a symbol of Irish traditional music and thus the cultural identity of Catholic Ireland. The Lambeg drum is a large bass drum that is carried in parades by the Orange Lodge and is an integral part of the identity of Northern Protestants. In 1992, Roy Arbuckle and Stephen Matier brought these drums together in a cross-cultural community relations project. Different Drums of Ireland started as an experiment in peace that brought the messages of coexistence, tolerance and "marching to the beat of ones own drum" to schools and community centers across Northern Ireland.
15 years later they have played for the presidents of Ireland and the US, been invited to international drumming festivals on three continents, are regular headliners at Celtic festivals across the US and Europe, and have been featured guests at conflict resolution conferences. Besides the two famous drums, the band includes Uilleann pipes, whistles, guitar, a myriad of percussion instruments and four voices.

Sponsorship Opportunities
Community support is essential to the success of nonprofit arts organizations such as ours. Business sponsorships are tangible endorsements of community approval for the activities of an organization. By seeking sponsors for our concerts and dances, we hope to raise the local profile and community awareness of CMCAA while continuing to bring world renowned artists to perform and teach traditional music and dance in mid-Missouri.
For the past 6 years, CMCAA has been totally supported by membership dues, member donations, ticket sales, class fees, and two "small projects grants" from the City of Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs. We've done great things on our own, but now we would like to invite local businesses and individuals to help us take this grass-roots community arts organization a step further.
Our sponsorship packet is now online here: http://www.moceltic.org/2007/2007_sponsor_packet.pdf
