OK,
well, I was a little over-ambitious in my target date for starting classes
on June 7, since Úna is only arriving in Columbia at midnight Friday.
Prudence being the better part of valor and all that, and since there are
still 8 weeks that she'll be here to teach, we're starting classes on June

Classes will be held at The Chez coffeehouse at 100 Hitt St in Columbia.
Here is the schedule:

Tuesday 5:30 - 6:30 Irish music accompaniment (guitar/piano) 4 weeks, $35

3. Call 573-442-2048 and leave a message with your name, phone and the class(es) you want to take.
AND.. The best news.... if you and members of your family register for more than 2 classes you get a 10% discount.

Art in the Park -- This Saturday
If you're new to Columbia, you might not be aware yet that the grounds of
Stephens College at the corner of Broadway and College is THE place to be on
the first weekend of June every year! That's the venue for the Columbia Art
League's fantastic art fair which draws the best of artists from Missouri
and much further away, too. Besides art to buy, there is art for kids to
make, and music all day both days.
The schedule and more was in the Tribune article from Ovation:
http://www.showmenews.com/2004/May/20040530Ovat002.asp
Last year was the 45th year of the festival and the Tribune did a great
article:
http://archive.columbiatribune.com/2003/jun/20030601ovat004.asp
We'll be playing Irish music from 2:00 - 2:45 p.m., leading off with music by our artists-in-residence Deirdre Harnedy and Úna ni Fhlannagáin. Úna will barely be off the plane, but has cheerfully agreed to jump right in with both feet and her harp!
At 3:00 the famous New Orleans Preservation Hall Jazz Band will play a FREE concert in the park, so if you're there early for Irish music, you'll have a great seat for jazz, too! Bring your sun hat!
ALSO -- The wonderful folks from the Columbia Art League who organize Art in the Park are looking for volunteers. This can be a really fun activity, especially when shared with a family member or friend. They need folks to help with kids art projects, food tents, t-shirt art and temporary tattoos. If you'd like to volunteer either day, just send an e-mail to Crystal Payne: cipayne@GoColumbiaMO.com
Family Dance Class -- Parks and Recreation
Once again we're offering a family dance class in cooperation with Columbia Parks and Recreation. It's listed in the summer Liesure Times catalog, which you can pick up at The Arc and many other P & R facilities and the main office downtown.
The class will meet at 9 am on Saturday mornings for four weeks, June 19 - July 17 (skipping July 3).
We'll teach easy Irish ceili dances (social dances). Kids and parents are encouraged to take it together. There is a discount for additional family members. For registration details, call 573-874-7460.
Irish Set Dancers...
...meet on Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:30. Beginning on June 9, we'll be meeting at First Presbyterian Church in the hall above The Chez Coffeehouse where there is a great wood floor for dancing.
Don't be put off -- come join us! We're all beginners just trying to learn a few dances and have a lot of fun.
If you have enjoyed the dancing at our monthly ceilis, this is a chance to dance more and try some new and different dances. We're currently working on the Derrada Set, The South Galway Set and hope to work on The Clare Lancers if we have enough people... hint, hint!
$2 suggested donation to support building use.
